5G FAQs
What is 5G?Zong has already successfully completed end-to-end 5G testing, demonstrating technical readiness. The spectrum allocation and regulatory approvals have been done. The technical rollout is now under progress
Where will 5G be available?5G rollout will be phased. Initially, services are available in major cities and high-demand urban areas. Expansion to other cities will follow in stages. For list of areas, visit MyZong App.
Will 5G work everywhere immediately? No. 5G will be introduced in selected areas first. Customers outside 5G coverage areas will continue using 4G services without interruption. However, 4G will also be improved after spectrum launch
What happens if I move out of a 5G coverage area?If a customer moves outside 5G coverage area, the device will seamlessly switch to the 4G network to ensure uninterrupted connectivity.
Do I need a new SIM for 5G?No need to buy a new separate SIM for 5G. 4G SIMs are technically compatible with 5G.
Do I need a new phone for 5G?Yes. Customers must have a 5G-enabled smartphone to access 5G services. For list of phones, visit the web page:https://www.zong.com.pk/vas/compatible-5g-handsets
How can I check if my phone supports 5G?Most major smartphone brands now offer 5G-compatible devices. Customers can check phone specifications in Settings à Mobile Network, visit the manufacturer website, or can visit the link mentioned above
How do I enable 5G on my device?Go to Settings à Mobile Network à Preferred Network Type à Select 5G/Auto.
What if I don't have a 5G-enabled handset?Customers without a 5G-enabled device will continue to enjoy 4G services without interruption. 4G will remain fully operational and will have improved speeds, delivering a high-quality experience for streaming, browsing, gaming, and everyday connectivity.
How fast will 5G be?5G is designed to deliver significantly faster download and upload speeds compared to 4G. Actual speeds will depend on coverage, device, and network load (number of users and devices at a single time and location). The customer will typically get speeds which is higher than their 4G speed
Will 5G improve gaming and streaming?Yes. 5G offers lower latency (faster response times) for better gaming response, faster HD/4K streaming, smoother video calls, and improved performance
Will my internet speed improve immediately after 5GSpeed improvement depends on 5G coverage availability, compatible device, and network conditions. Customers outside coverage will continue using 4G services, which will also be improved.
Will 5G replace 4G?No, 4G will continue operating alongside 5G. Customers without 5G devices or coverage will continue using 4G normally.
Will 4G performance improve after 5G launch?Yes. As some traffic shifts to 5G, 4G network congestion may reduce, improving user experience in 5G launched areas.
Will 5G consume more data than 4G?5G enables faster speeds, which may result in higher data consumption depending on usage patterns such as HD/4K streaming and online gaming. Customers are advised to select data bundles that best match their usage.
Will 5G affect battery life?Battery performance may vary based on device model, usage, and network conditions. Most modern 5G smartphones are designed to optimize power consumption through intelligent network switching.
