Top 5 TV Shows Not on Netflix

Netflix is currently the biggest video streaming platform in the world. Consequently, it is also the biggest platform in Pakistan. However, while in other countries, different streaming platforms such as Amazon Prime, Hulu, Disney Plus, and HBO give it tough competition, in Pakistan, Netflix has a monopoly of sorts. This means that most content consumed by the people of Pakistan is one that is readily available on the platform. So, unless a tv series becomes mainstream enough to rival Game of Thrones, it is not generally watched by the people of this country.

Following are some shows you need to watch, even if they are not on Netflix:

Ted Lasso

Apple TV+ has some diamonds in its content repository, and Ted Lasso is the shiniest of them all. If a feel-good show is the need of the hour, Ted lasso delivers in abundance. This comedy is about an American sports coach, played by Jason Sudeikis, who moves to the UK in the midst of his divorce to save a football team close to relegation. Except he knows nothing about football, or as the Americans call it ‘Soccer,’ or about England. If there was an Emmy category for the most wholesome show on TV, Ted Lasso would win it hands down. It is both the critics and fan-favorite!

Succession

Binge-watchers, rejoice! Recently wrapped-up succession has all four seasons ready to stream. With 13 Emmys to its name and a whopping 9 Golden Globes, its one of the most awarded shows in recent times. You would often find Succession fans arguing that its one of the best shows of all time and its hard to win that battle against them. It’s a show about three, oops four (you’ll get it when you watch the show), rich privileged siblings and their race to take over their father’s huge media conglomerate.

The Bear

In the bear, a brilliant young chef from the fine-dining world is forced to return home to run his local family sandwich shop following the tragic death of his brother. Starring Jeremy Allen White as Carmen (you might know him from the popular show: Shameless), the Bear follows his and his team’s journey in trying to revive the restaurant to its former glory. The Bear is unlike any other shows on television right now. Although listed as a comedy show, ironically it has more stressful moments than most dramas.

Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Another show that has recently ended is arguably Amazon Prime’s best offering.  From the makers of Gilmore Girls, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is in one word: Marvelous. It follows Midge, a Jewish woman in the city of New York in the late 1950s, trying to make it big as a stand-up comedian at a time when stand-up comedy was thought to be exclusively reserved for men. The writing is stellar and has characters you will fall in love with from the get go. There is no reason to not give it a try!

Severance

Severance, a relatively short binge at only 8 episodes, is a recent offering from Apple TV+. In Severance, the protagonist Mark heads a team of office employees whose memories have been surgically separated between their professional and personal lives. As a science fiction show, it stands distinctly apart from other shows mentioned in the list. More explanation would destroy the suspense but if you’re into thrillers, this one’s for you!
